Candelilla Wax
Vegan Moisture Shield for Skin & Lips
Candelilla Wax, Euphorbia cerifera, is a plant-based wax harvested from the leaves and stems of the wild Candelilla shrub, which thrives in the arid regions of northern Mexico and the southwestern U.S. The plant naturally produces this wax as a protective coating against intense desert sun and dry winds, helping retain moisture in its leaves and stems.
The name candelilla, meaning “little candle” in Spanish, reflects its early use in candle making. Today, it’s a valued natural alternative to beeswax, especially in vegan formulations.
With a smooth, glossy texture and high melting point, Candelilla wax lends firmness and stability to balms, salves, and sticks—especially lip balms. It forms a light, breathable barrier that seals in moisture and shields skin from environmental stressors without a heavy or greasy feel.
Rich in natural esters, hydrocarbons, and fatty acids, Candelilla wax helps soften and condition skin, enhancing spreadability and leaving a silky, protective finish. Its fast-absorbing, non-comedogenic nature makes it ideal for sensitive or easily irritated skin.
We love it because it does everything beeswax does—just without the bees.
