Chamomile, Matricaria recutita, has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. Infusions have been used to soothe skin rashes, minor burns, and sunburn. Used as a lotion or added in oil form to a bath, chamomile eases the itching of eczema and other rashes and reduces skin inflammation. Chamomile has also been shown to help ease the symptoms of rosacea and relieve the discomfort of sunburn.
Chamomile is excellent for conditions such as dry skin, eczema, and psoriasis but it also has mild astringent properties which makes it good for deep-cleaning pores--making chamomile one of the best herbal extracts for acne. Commonly sold as a soothing and relaxing tea, it is believed to ease depression, stress, insomnia, and migraines.
In hair care chamomile is used to soothe the scalp, condition, and stimulate healthy hair growth. It adds highlights to fair hair and a sheen to dark hair and it conditions and softens. Chamomile tea makes a fantastic hair rinse for blondes.
