Bay, West Indian Essential Oil

Bay, West IndianPimenta racemosa, has a sweet, fresh, spicy aroma. Not to be confused with Bay Laurel, this essential oil is steam distilled from the leaves of the West Indian Bay tree (also known as the Bayberry or Bay Rum Tree). Although it is a common ingredient in the men's cologne and aftershave, women who enjoy spicy, sophisticated fragrances love West Indian Bay.

Years before bay rum was used as a toiletry, it was used as a rub for sore muscles, aches, and pains. The essential oil has analgesic properties making it an ideal addition to a soothing massage oil to help ease joint and muscle pain. A bay rum massage can also boost circulation which may also help ease nerve pain.

Bay rum essential oil has antiseptic and antibacterial properties that help cleanse pores making it helpful for certain skin conditions. Bay essential oil also has astringent properties that can help tighten the skin and reduce the production of sebum.

In hair care, bay rum essential oil is helpful with hair and scalp conditions. It can help boost scalp circulation which allows hair follicles to receive the nourishment they need. This in turn helps stimulates the follicles and the growth of new, healthy hair. Its antifungal and antibacterial properties can help ease common scalp conditions like dandruff.

Aromatherapy Properties: A stimulating, uplifting essential oil yet it has a calming and warming effect on emotions and helps relax body muscles and nerves. For many centuries Bay leaves were used for relieving stress, anxiety, and depression.
