Bergamot Essential Oil
Bergamot essential oil, Citrus bergamia, has an uplifting sweet lemon-lime, citrus, floral scent. It is cold-pressed from the fruit peel and provides the unusual flavor for Earl Grey tea. The fruit is not edible because the pulp is too sour. Italy’s coastal region of Calabria produces about 80% of the bergamot sold today. Bergamot was used in Italian folk medicine and in Ayurvedic medicine to treat problems related to digestion, skin health, and fever and other ailments.
Bergamot helps soothe dry, irritated skin and rashes making it an excellent choice for relieving symptoms of eczema and psoriasis. Its astringent quality helps gently tone and balance skin oil production, even out skin tone, ease acne, and unclog pores. Its deodorizing action refreshes the body.
In hair care, it helps regulate excessive oiliness of the scalp and enhances natural luster.
Aromatherapy Properties: Bergamot is balancing to the nervous system by relieving anxiety and stress, elevating mood, and lifting melancholy. Bergamot, second only to lavender in its ability to relax brain waves, helps to relieve lethargy, nervousness, and insomnia.
