Spearmint Essential Oil
Spearmint essential oil, Mentha spicata, is steam distilled from the leaves and flowers. Although it has an aroma is similar to peppermint, the menthol content in spearmint is much less, making it a bit milder and gentler oil. Spearmint and peppermint oil share similar medicinal properties.
With antibacterial and astringent properties, spearmint is a good skin cleanser. It helps close pores and tightens skin. It helps control oil production but is gentle enough to use for combination skin. Its anti-inflammatory properties may help ease the symptoms of skin conditions such as psoriasis and acne.
A spearmint massage oil gives a cooling sensation to the skin which can help relieve itching associated with dryness and irritated skin conditions. It also has some gentle analgesic qualities that can be helpful in treating tension and sinus headaches.
