Organic Patchouli Essential Oil

Patchouli essential oil, Pogostemon cablin, is steam distilled from the large, aromatic velvety leaves of a bushy herb. A member of the mint family, patchouli grows wild in India. It has the exotic, woodsy, musky, earthy scent that will take the children of the 1960s on a trip down memory lane. We have discovered that while some people absolutely love the scent, others seem to absolutely hate it.

Patchouli oil seems to calm everything down, including the skin. It is a very skin-nourishing oil with anti-inflammatory and astringent properties, making it a good choice to help ease acne, dermatitis, and eczema. As it boosts circulation it increases oxygen to the cells to help retain a healthy-looking, youthful appearance. Don’t let its powerful scent fool you, it is a gentle oil that calms, tones, and tightens the skin, is used in many anti-wrinkle products, and may be helpful with mature skin.

In hair care, patchouli balances oil production making it a great treatment for oily scalp and dandruff as well as for dry hair and scalp.

Aromatherapy Properties: The scent of love, patchouli is believed to be a very effective aphrodisiac that promotes increased feelings of desire. The warmth and depth of its aroma make this comforting, relaxing, and peace-inducing oil a favorite for meditation. It is a grounding and soothing oil with uplifting and stimulating properties that can help balance emotions, encourage restful sleep, and improve mood and cognitive function.

Lemongrass essential oil, Cymbopogon flexuosus, has a wonderful, uplifting lemony scent that is steam distilled from a grass harvested in Guatemala. Lemongrass has long been used in Eastern medicine to treat muscular pain and stiffness. Its astringent properties make it useful in the treatment of acne, blemishes, and other skin inflammations. Lemongrass essential oil is particularly high in anti-bacterial, antiseptic, healing and soothing properties. Skin-soothing properties help cleanse your skin without the drying that overexcites the oil glands.

In hair care, lemongrass oil increases fullness and body and adds luster to dull hair. It may also be an effective treatment to combat hair loss and oily hair and scalp conditions. Some herbalists believe that lemongrass oil can strengthen the hair follicles, another benefit for those suffering from thinning or weak hair.

Aromatherapy Properties: There has been recent research in India that shows that lemongrass acts as a sedative on the central nervous system which helps relieve tension and promotes the sensation of being calm. The scent of Lemongrass is soothing, stimulating, and refreshing. Aromatherapists value lemongrass for its ability to both calm and revitalize, to relieve tension, invigorate, and inspire.
