Organic Peppermint Essential Oil

Peppermint essential oilMentha piperata, steam distilled from the leaves, is a strong, minty fresh oil with cooling, refreshing, and deodorant properties. Peppermint leaves have been found in Egyptian pyramids dating as far back as 1000 BC. Peppermint is one of the world's oldest medicinal herbs, and it is also one of the most versatile. Peppermint has antimicrobial, antibacterial, and antifungal properties. The natural menthol and rosmarinic acid in peppermint contribute to its anti-inflammatory and antiviral qualities.

Peppermint acts as an astringent that closes pores and tightens skin. The cooling power of peppermint comes from the high percentage of menthol in its leaves. Since it both stimulates nerve endings and increases local blood flow when used topically in a salve or massage oil it has both cooling and warming sensations which may help ease headaches, muscle aches, and inflammation. Peppermint oil is great for oily skin and the antibacterial qualities can calm breakouts. It has also traditionally been used as a cooling chest rub to relieve congestion.

In hair care products, peppermint refreshes and stimulates the scalp promoting blood circulation which stimulates growth.  Its cooling menthol content also makes it an excellent remedy for itching and dryness.

Aromatherapy Properties: The uplifting, invigorating, and stimulating scent helps promote concentration and memory, awakens and refreshes the senses, soothes feelings of irritability, boosts energy, and enhances mental focus. It helps relieve mental fatigue, apathy, feelings of nervous tension, headaches, and depression.

Keep diluted peppermint essential oil or a sliver of peppermint soap in your car when traveling, the scent of peppermint is excellent for stuffy heads, headaches, motion sickness, and nausea. Some find that rubbing small amounts (in a carrier oil) behind the ear may also help ease the feelings of motion sickness and nausea.

Lemongrass essential oil, Cymbopogon flexuosus, has a wonderful, uplifting lemony scent that is steam distilled from a grass harvested in Guatemala. Lemongrass has long been used in Eastern medicine to treat muscular pain and stiffness. Its astringent properties make it useful in the treatment of acne, blemishes, and other skin inflammations. Lemongrass essential oil is particularly high in anti-bacterial, antiseptic, healing and soothing properties. Skin-soothing properties help cleanse your skin without the drying that overexcites the oil glands.

In hair care, lemongrass oil increases fullness and body and adds luster to dull hair. It may also be an effective treatment to combat hair loss and oily hair and scalp conditions. Some herbalists believe that lemongrass oil can strengthen the hair follicles, another benefit for those suffering from thinning or weak hair.

Aromatherapy Properties: There has been recent research in India that shows that lemongrass acts as a sedative on the central nervous system which helps relieve tension and promotes the sensation of being calm. The scent of Lemongrass is soothing, stimulating, and refreshing. Aromatherapists value lemongrass for its ability to both calm and revitalize, to relieve tension, invigorate, and inspire.
