Organic Petitgrain Essential Oil
Petitgrain essential oil, Citrus aurantium, has a fresh, floral, citrus scent with some woodsy notes. Petitgrain is one of the three oils obtained from the Bitter Orange tree. The others are Neroli from the flowers and Bitter Orange from the peel of the fruit. Petitgrain is often called the “poor man’s neroli” since it is much less expensive but provides many of the same health benefits. Although today Petitgrain oil is steam distilled from the fresh leaves and small twigs, it was once extracted from the green unripe oranges when they were still the size of cherries, hence the name Petitgrain or "little grains."
Petitgrain is a balancing oil that helps clear and tone the skin. It helps decrease excess sebum produced by oil glands and cleanse the skin of dead skin cells. The essential oil helps fight the bacteria that cause acne which leads to clearer skin.
The anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic properties of petitgrain make it an excellent addition to massage oils to ease muscle aches and pains.
In hair care, Petitgrain essential oil is a great natural conditioner. It helps cleanse hair, remove excess oil build-up, and balance oil production leaving hair feeling clean and fresh.
Aromatherapy Properties: Petitgrain, like other citrus oils, is a mood booster. Its relaxing and calming effect helps relieve nervous tension and anxiety and lift feelings of stress and depression. It can help with mood swings and emotional instability. Petitgrain helps fight fatigue and promotes the energy you need to get through a stressful day. It also has a sedative effect that can help treat insomnia and provide a restful night's sleep.
Lemongrass essential oil, Cymbopogon flexuosus, has a wonderful, uplifting lemony scent that is steam distilled from a grass harvested in Guatemala. Lemongrass has long been used in Eastern medicine to treat muscular pain and stiffness. Its astringent properties make it useful in the treatment of acne, blemishes, and other skin inflammations. Lemongrass essential oil is particularly high in anti-bacterial, antiseptic, healing and soothing properties. Skin-soothing properties help cleanse your skin without the drying that overexcites the oil glands.
In hair care, lemongrass oil increases fullness and body and adds luster to dull hair. It may also be an effective treatment to combat hair loss and oily hair and scalp conditions. Some herbalists believe that lemongrass oil can strengthen the hair follicles, another benefit for those suffering from thinning or weak hair.
Aromatherapy Properties: There has been recent research in India that shows that lemongrass acts as a sedative on the central nervous system which helps relieve tension and promotes the sensation of being calm. The scent of Lemongrass is soothing, stimulating, and refreshing. Aromatherapists value lemongrass for its ability to both calm and revitalize, to relieve tension, invigorate, and inspire.
