Plants have been producing aromatic compounds to help protect themselves from pests since the beginning of time. Inspired by these botanical ingredients, we created a candle that combines the warm glow of a candle with a skin-conditioning lotion made from nourishing organic oils and butters.

Our Bug Candle features the same blend of organic essential oils found throughout our Don’t Bug Me! collection, including citronella, cedarwood, lemongrass, rosemary, and thyme to help repel mosquitoes and gnats while providing a fresh, clean, woodsy aroma with subtle citrus notes.

This natural bug candle does double duty. Light the candle and enjoy its fresh, clean, woodsy aroma with subtle citrus notes. As the oils and butters melt, they form a warm, skin-conditioning lotion that can be applied to exposed skin.

The butters and oils melt at a skin-safe temperature, creating a warm lotion that glides easily onto the skin.

Because outdoor conditions vary, individual experiences may differ depending on weather conditions, activity level, perspiration, and time spent outdoors.

The scent from the essential oil blend is s not as strong as a typical "bug" candle, because it is made with a skin-safe concentration of oils.

How To Use

To ensure an even burn and long-lasting candle, make sure to trim your wick to about 1/4 inch before lighting. Burn on a stable, flat, heat resistant surface. 

Light the Candle:

  • For best results, light wick 10 minutes before sitting outside.
  • Allow candle to burn for 10 – 15 minutes or until the top level of warm oil pool evenly and there is still solid candle oil underneath.
  • During this time the light scent can help repel insects**

Blow out the Flame*

  • Yes, always extinguish candle before attempting to use the oil.

Apply the Oil

  • Dip your finger into pooled oil and massage into skin where bugs are biting like the ankles.
  • The candle melts at just above body temperature. 
  • The oils should feel warm, but not hot.
  • Apply to the pulse points on your body located behind your ear, at the bottom of your throat, on your wrist, inside your elbow and behind your knee. 

*To extinguish your candle, gently blow out the flame. Never attempt to extinguish a candle using water.

**The scent from the essential oil blend will help repel insects, but since *the candle is made with a skin-safe concentration of oils, it is not as strong as a typical "bug" candle.


The leftover candle will solidify to use another day. Keep wick trimmed to about ¼ inch. Be sure to replace the lid after use to keep candle clean.

  • Avoid contact with eyes.
  • In case of contact with eyes, rinse eyes with plenty of water.
  • If skin irritation occurs at anytime discontinue use and wash area with soap and water.
  • If you are pregnant, nursing, taking medication, have a medical condition, or have any medical concerns regarding yourself or your family always consult a qualified, licensed health professional prior to using products with essential oils.
  • For young children, if you have sensitive skin or are simply trying a new product for the first time, we always recommend doing a patch test.
  • Keep away from children. Please have adults do the applying and do not apply to children's hands. We recommend consulting your health care provider before using this product on an infant or young toddler.
  • Please follow all other regular candle care and safety instructions.
  • As with all candles NEVER leave a burning candle unattended and keep away from flammable material, children, and pets.
  • Best if used within 6 months of opening.

First aid: If skin irritation occurs, wash area with soap and water. In case of contact with eyes, rinse eyes with plenty of water.


Storage and Disposal: Store in original container in cool place not accessible to children and pets. Do not reuse container. Clean thoroughly before recycling.

We also dip our fingers in the “wax” once it starts melting though, and rub it on our wrists and other exposed body parts. Even when it melts, it stays at a temperature that doesn’t burn human skin. Great Candle!

"I love the scent, reminds me of times of sitting outside eating food and drinking good. And the lotion seems to soothe bug bites. It is a good repellent. Although, I have not tried it on all instances or extents, I can only say so much about it. Firstly, it’s a bit pricey for such a small thing. Secondly, it doesn’t hold a flame in mildly intensive weather or stronger drafts in doors. Thirdly, it doesn’t do the same things as would a chemically induced bug repellent could. Which, is a good thing! Because it’s all natural! Overall, I love it, but if those negatives could be fixed I would definitely then buy another and another."

Is it safe to burn this candle around approx 8 month old babies? Not applying the oil on them, Just burning the candle in a room they're in.

Hi There, Thanks for your question! Our candles are meant to be used in the following manner: Light candle, wait 10-20 minutes for a pool of warm oil to form. Blow out candle, pour warm oil in your hand and massage. The candle melts at just above body temperature. The oils should feel warm, but not hot. The left over candle will solidify to use another day. Depending on how much you use each time, everyone will get different amounts of burn time out of them. Hope this helps! Natürliche Bio-Hautpflegeprodukte Wir stellen alle unsere Produkte in kleinen Chargen von Hand her, um Frische, Konsistenz und Perfektion zu gewährleisten.

Unsere Produkte sind nicht dafür gemacht, jahrelang in den Regalen der Geschäfte zu stehen.

Obwohl die chemische Struktur vieler natürlicher Inhaltsstoffe natürliche Konservierungsmittel enthält, sind diese nicht so wirksam wie die synthetischen Konservierungsmittel, die in kommerziellen Produkten zur Verlängerung der Haltbarkeit verwendet werden.

Mit Ausnahme von Seife werden unsere Produkte alle paar Wochen erneuert und sind beim Verkauf nicht sehr alt. Unsere Nicht-Seifenprodukte sollten innerhalb von 6 Monaten nach dem Kauf geöffnet werden.

Da wir keine Konservierungsstoffe oder chemischen Stabilisatoren verwenden, ist die wichtigere Frage: „Wie lange ist das Produkt nach dem Öffnen haltbar?“

Nach dem Öffnen sind Hautpflegeprodukte Schmutz und Mikroorganismen (Bakterien, Hefen und Schimmel) ausgesetzt, die in der Luft und auf der Haut vorkommen.

Sobald Sie ein Produkt öffnen und verwenden, wirkt sich allein die Art und Weise der Verwendung auf seine Lebensdauer aus.

Daher verwenden wir das PAO-Symbol (Period After Opening) . Diese Symbole sind bereits auf den Produktseiten unserer Website verfügbar und wir sind dabei, sie auf allen unseren Etiketten hinzuzufügen.

Das POA-Symbol ist ein Standardsymbol, das die Nutzungsdauer eines Hautpflegeprodukts nach dem ersten Öffnen angibt.

Natürliche Hautpflege Innerhalb von 9 Monaten nach dem Öffnen verwenden. Logo Wie Sie auf dem Bild sehen können, ist das Symbol ein offenes Glas mit einer darauf geschriebenen Zahl und dem Buchstaben „M“ für das Wort „Monate“.

Ein Produkt mit der Kennzeichnung „9M“ bedeutet, dass es nach dem Öffnen 9 Monate haltbar ist.

Tipp: Notieren Sie das Datum der ersten Öffnung eines Produkts auf dem Etikett, damit Sie den Zeitraum nach dem Öffnen im Auge behalten.

Unsere POA-Nummer stellt unseren besten Vorschlag dar. Viele Faktoren können die Lebensdauer eines Produkts beeinflussen. Wenn ein Produkt verfärbt ist, unangenehm riecht oder ungewöhnlich aussieht, sollte es nicht verwendet und entsorgt werden.

  • Jedes Mal, wenn Sie Ihre warmen Finger in eine Dose oder ein Glas stecken, schmelzen Sie etwas Butter, was die Konsistenz des Produkts verändern kann.
  • Durch die Finger gelangen außerdem Bakterien und andere Verunreinigungen in das Produkt.
  • Wenn ein Produkt nicht ordnungsgemäß gelagert wurde, beispielsweise wenn der Deckel längere Zeit offen war, kann es sein, dass das Produkt schon vor Ablauf der Öffnungsfrist „verdirbt“.
  • Mit zunehmendem Alter von Duftprodukten kann ein Teil des natürlichen Duftes ätherischer Öle verloren gehen. Reine ätherische Öle haben einfach nicht die Haltbarkeit synthetischer Duftöle.
  • Mit der Zeit können natürliche Farben auch verblassen.

Wenn es dir wie mir geht und du ein altes, verstaubtes Produkt in einer Schublade, einer Kosmetiktasche oder sogar einem Koffer von deiner letzten Reise findest, kannst du uns gerne anrufen und uns die Chargennummer mitteilen. Wir können dann das Alter überprüfen. Wenn es irgendwie merkwürdig aussieht, wirf es einfach weg!

Bitte beachten Sie: Dieses PAO-Symbol wird in Europa häufig verwendet, um die Haltbarkeitsdauer eines Produkts nach dem Öffnen zu empfehlen. Die Haltbarkeitsdauer beträgt mindestens 30 Monate. Unsere Produkte sind nach dem Öffnen NICHT länger als 30 Monate haltbar.
