The Organic Sea Buckthorn, Tamanu, and Jojoba oils are unrefined and have not been bleached or deodorized. These oils retain their natural scent, color, and nutritional benefits.

How to Use

Directions: Apply a few drops with fingertips, using small circular strokes in an upward, outward motion until oil has been absorbed. A gentle massage gives skin a circulation boost.

Please Note: Our Sea Buckthorn Oil is unrefined and has a strong fruity musky scent that is characteristic of Sea Buckthorn. The deep orange color of sea buckthorn oil can stain skin, clothing, and surfaces. Staining of the skin washes off easily. Tamanu oil has a rich, deep scent with a bold dark color. Both oils may naturally separate or solidify at cold temperatures. If your oil solidifies, simply place the bottle in some warm water.

FAQs

Whether you call them "face oils" or "facial serums," nourishing, unrefined organic oils can moisturize, soothe and help restore natural balance to facial skin.

While many people, especially those with oily or acne prone skin tend to shy away from oil-based moisturizing, it can be a very important step in daily skin care. An organic facial oil helps to increase the moisture content in the skin and prevent further moisture loss.

Organic Argan Face Oil SerumIf you have oily skin, nourishing organic oils can help mimic the natural skin sebum which in turn sends signals to oil producing cells that say, "hey my skin is moisturized so stop producing oil."

Using products created to "dry out" oily skin will actually trigger the oil glands to increase oil production, which only exacerbates the oily skin problem. A wholesome moisturizer helps balance skin oil production.

If you have dry skin an organic facial oil made from unrefined botanical oils creates a protective but breathable barrier that slows moisture evaporation and thus helps lock in moisture.

Natural Organic Facial Serum OilIf you have irritated skin a facial oil can help calm inflammation and soothe red irritated skin.

It is especially important for those (like me!) with maturing skin to keep your face adequately moisturized to help with fine lines and wrinkles.

The main thing is to make sure that you are using the right kind of moisturizer.

The most nourishing face oils are those made with unrefined, certified organic plant-based oils.

Unrefined oils are either cold-pressed or expeller-pressed.

They are minimally processed without chemicals under temperature controlled conditions.

Minimal processing ensures a nutrient-rich, high-quality natural oil.

USDA Certified Organic means the botanical oils are free of synthetic additives, pesticides, and preservatives.

Stay away from petroleum-based products that contain mineral oils which clog your pores and cause breakouts.

Natural Organic Sea Buckthorn Soap

We often receive emails and phone calls from customers with chronic irritated or inflamed skin problems.

We have learned that for some people simply switching to a natural product may help.

We believe that natural ingredients are milder, healthier and gentler on the skin. I often say that it’s what's NOT in our products, that is often the most helpful.

While we cannot promise that our products will help heal your inflamed or irritated skin conditions, we have received a lot of feedback from customers telling us that our products have helped soothe irritated skin problems.

Natural Organic Chickweed Anti Itch SalveWe have used this feedback to create "Help Me Choose" pages for a variety of skin issues.

Pure essential oils, herbs, and other natural ingredients have been used for centuries. Their folklore and uses have been passed down through generations.

Please note that our products are NOT drugs or medicines meant to treat or cure illness, which would require FDA testing and approval. Our products are intended to help soothe irritated skin.

If you have sensitive skin issues, always try an allergy patch test before using a new product.

The answer is, YES!

Chagrin Valley Soap & Salve is a USDA Certified Organic company. Certified Organic Skin Care

The most important consideration in any business is its customers. Today's world of misleading claims, false advertising, and simple deception, often leaves consumers trying to discover the truth about personal products and their ingredients.

  • We want our customers to know that we are committed to transparency in everything we do.
  • We want our customers to know that when we say "organic," we mean it.
  • We believe that in becoming a USDA Certified Organic company, our customers do not have to wonder if we really use certified organic ingredients or if our organic products are truly organic.
  • So we choose to be a certified organic company and abide by the strict standards required for organic certification.

Chagrin Valley Soap & Salve is certified cruelty-free by Leaping Bunny.

The Leaping Bunny Program was developed in 1996, by The Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics (CCIC), to identify and support companies that are doing their part to help eliminate the unnecessary use and mistreatment of animals to test cosmetic products and ingredients. The CCIC is made up of eight animal protection groups including the Humane Society of the U.S., as well as groups from Canada and Europe.

At Chagrin Valley we obviously do not test our finished products on animals (other than human volunteers), but what about the raw materials, the ingredients we use? Many products display labels claiming that their finished product is ‘not tested on animals’ but this does not guarantee that the product ingredients are actually free from animal testing.

The CCIC Standard is a pledge that a company makes to remove animal testing from all stages of product development. Our pledge to buy ingredieCruelty Free Natural Skin Carents that are cruelty-free is integrated into the purchase order contract for all of our suppliers.

Personal care products displaying the “real” Leaping Bunny logo are certified ‘cruelty-free' using the internationally recognized Humane Cosmetics Standards. These rigorous standards require that no animal testing is performed or authorized for finished products or ingredients in any stage of product development by the company, its laboratories or its suppliers after a fixed cut-off date. All Leaping Bunny companies are subject to independent audits and pledge commitments are renewed on an annual basis.

Testimonials

I have rosacea, and recently had a bad outbreak of rosacea acne on and around my nose. My dermatologist prescribed Metrogel, which helped some but after 3 weeks of use it still didn't completely eliminate the acne and redness. I had a sample bottle of the seabuckthorn-tamanu facial oil that I bought awhile back (and had actually forgotten about), so I decided to try that instead. Within a week my skin showed improvement, and after 2 weeks it was completely clear. I was amazed and so thankful. I've been using your products for years, but this is now my new favorite. Also must mention a new "off label" use for the Healing Herbs Lip Balm - I was on vacation recently and got a couple of mosquito bites. I didn't have my Afterbite stick with me, but I noticed that the lip balm contains chickweed and plaintain, which I remembered reading on your website were good for insect bites & itchy skin generally. So I dabbed a little of the lip balm on each bite, and presto! No more itch. Anyway, thanks for making such great stuff!  Donna, Washington

Dear Chagrin Valley, I ordered your Seabuckthorn Tamanu Oil [facial oil] and Tamanu Oil salve for my very irritated rosacea skin. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for making this stuff. I have tried EVERYTHING to calm and clear my face with no luck. I was using your Shea's So Fine with some relief but not completely. I ordered the Seabuckthorn Tamanu products after reading the descriptions on what they are good for. I've only been using them for less than a week but my face has finally started to clear and feel normal. The itching and irritation are gone. What spots and redness I have are disappearing. I was about to give up and just deal with the fact that I would have ugly skin for the rest of my life. These products are anything short of a miracle. I apply a this layer of the facial oil first then a thin layer of the salve. Please don't ever stop making these products as they are helping so well. Rosacea is an ugly condition that no one wants but with these products I can feel confident in my skin again. You have a customer for life. I also love your deodorants and shampoo bars.   Kimberly, Texas

I was completely new to facial oil, and based on the descriptions, purchased your Seabuckthorn Tamanu and Pomegranate Argan Tamanu oils.  It was a little difficult for me to find the right amount to hydrate my skin, and I’ve found the best method for me has been to use these as cleansing oils rather than dotting them on as moisturizer.  I wet my face with warm water, use about a dime’s worth in my palm and rub my hands together, then massage the oil all over my face.  If I’m wearing makeup, I concentrate on those areas a little longer.  Then I take a warm/hot wash cloth, set it over my face for about 30 seconds, and gently wipe the oil away.  One last rinse, and my face is clean, well oiled, and so soft!  I normally use a complexion bar first, but if I haven’t worn makeup, this is the entirety of my facial cleansing routine.  Since I’ve been doing this, my fine lines have softened, my face is less blotchy and glowing, and I never have to buy “waterproof makeup remover” again!  I like both of the oils equally, and alternate between the two.  I use a dry brushing method to exfoliate, and this is the perfect finish to that ritual. Sarah, North Carolina
