Detangling Herbal Hair Rinse
Most of us with longer hair have experienced frustration of tangles and knots.
What causes these tangles? While the natural texture of your hair plays a large role, pretty much everything we do, like using ponytail holders, sleeping, walking in the wind, exercising, hair washing technique, and more can contribute the tangled web.
Unfortunately, commercial detangling products are all too often loaded with synthetic chemicals. Making you own natural hair detangler recipes can help eliminate tangles without damaging your hair or our environment.
Chagrin Valley Herbal Detangler Tea Hair Rinse is an herbal hair tea made with specially selected organic herbs and botanicals to help decrease tangles naturally. No synthetic ingredients that can damage hair or cause build-up.
Marsh mallow root, burdock root, flaxseed, and hibiscus flowers are rich in mucilage, a complex mixture of polysaccharides that form a soothing gelatinous liquid when water is added.
Mucilage provides a slip to hair that helps to detangle. These herbs plus rosemary and basil hold in moisture and strengthen the hair shaft to help prevent breakage, and add sheen to your hair.
A detangler tea will not work for everyone--everyone's hair is unique! I have lots of long, very fine hair that snarls ever so easily. The Herbal Detangler Tea Rinse together with apple cider vinegar works best for me to decrease tangles! I like keep mine in a spray bottle and just spritz it on when needed.
I have discovered that tea without the vinegar is one of my hair's favorites for shine and manageability!
Simple Herbal Detangler Tea Rinse Recipe
Recipe:
- Fill the muslin bag (included with our rinse) with 1/4 cup of the tea
- Pour 1 1/4 cups of boiling water over the herbal bag
- Steep for at least 30 minutes covered to allow the mucilage to release
- Allow mixture to cool
- Squeeze the tea bag in order to extract all the herbal goodness
- Strain the herbs (they make great compost) and reserve the liquid
- Use as a whole head rinse or pour the liquid into a spray bottle and store it in the refrigerator. (Do not store in aluminum). Shake before each use. It will be good for about 7 to 10 days.
How To Use:
Whole Head Rinse: As you slowly pour the tea over your wet head, massage the infusion into your hair. Keep a large bowl under your head to catch the liquid and reapply several times. Gently rinse with cool water or, for extra conditioning benefits, just leave it in and towel dry your hair.
Spray: (My favorite method!) Spritz tea on freshly washed hair and gently comb through. Do not rinse out, just style as usual. OR After shampooing and rinsing while still in the shower, spray detangling tea and gently comb through hair. Rinse a bit and style.
Our Detangling Blend Herbal Hair Rinse is great all by itself. If you are feeling creative or enjoy experimenting with natural hair care solutions there are a lot of simple ingredients you can add to the herbal rinse.
