Hair type has 4 major categories: straight hair (type 1), wavy hair (type 2), curly hair (type 3), and coily hair (type 4). These 4 types of hair are further categorized into A, B, and C subtypes creating 12 total categories. People often have two different hair textures on various parts of their head.
Hair oiling is an ancient practice used to strengthen and moisturize hair. Pure plant hair oils and butters can help improve appearance of split ends and add moisture and shine to hair, especially for hair that has been damaged by styling, processing, or heat.
Is using a hair butter or oil right for you? Of course there is no one answer for every hair type.
To help tame a bit of frizz and flyaways, it is best to apply hair oils or creams to dry hair and use a small amount, a little bit goes a long way. For more intensive treatments use hair butters or oils on damp or moist hair to allow better absorption and maximize its hydrating effects.
Whether or not to oil your scalp seems to be up for debate. While many articles encourage applying oil directly to your scalp, others state that applying oil directly on your scalp may put you at higher risk for dandruff.
Remember, every head of hair is unique, so natural oils and creams will produce different results for each person.
