How To Use A Beard and/or Pre-Shave Oil

As A Beard Oil

A beard oil is as a moisturizer to keep your beard soft and the skin underneath hydrated. Many people find that beard oil makes it easier to manage their beard, especially as it gets longer.

Natural Organic Beard and Pre-Shave OilBenefits of a Beard Oil
  • Moisturizes the skin underneath the beard to prevent dry, flaking skin.
  • Reducing itchiness by moisturizing skin and beard hair.
  • Helps prevent beard dandruff by moisturizing the skin beneath the beard hair.
  • Softens the beard.
  • Keeps the beard looking healthy and neat.
  • Beard oils with essential oils add a pleasant scent to the beard.
How To Use a Beard Oil
  • Suitable for men with light/heavy stubble to a full beard.
  • Always begin with a clean beard that is towel-dried but still slightly damp (not wet).
  • Sprinkle a few drops of oil onto your palm. We recommend around 2-6 drops depending on the length of your beard. A little goes a long way so begin with less and you can always apply more.
  • Rub the oil between your hands to spread the oil around your palms and fingers.
  • Massage onto skin and beard. The goal is to moisturize the beard roots, the skin underneath, and the skin surrounding the beard.
  • Remember you want to massage your entire face, not just the whiskers.
  • If you have a mustache use a finger and swipe down a few times.
  • To finish, run a comb through the beard to evenly distribute the oil until soft and conditioned.
  • Comb both with and against the growth of your hair and then groom the beard it as you like it.

You can always apply more oil if you think it is needed. People with particularly long or dry beards may need more. Everyone is unique so you need to experiment to determine what works best for you. Be careful, too much oil will leave the beard feeling and looking greasy.

Common Questions

When Should I Apply Beard Oil?

The best time to apply beard oil is when your beard and face are clean after washing your face, taking a shower or shaving. The moisture and warmth of the damp skin allows better absorption of the oil.

Before applying the oil, dry your beard with a towel so that it is damp but not wet.

How Often Should I Use Beard Oil?

Pay attention to the needs of your skin and beard. We recommend using a beard oil after every shower and whenever the beard or facial skin feels itchy or uncomfortable.

What Is The Difference Between A Beard Oil And Beard Balm?

Both beard oils and beard balms are moisturizers but they have different textures and functions. Beard oils are made up of lightweight plant oils that do not add weight to the beard. Beard balms are heavier. A natural beard balm is made with both plant oils and butters. They are useful for styling the beard and taming unruly flyaway hairs.

As A Pre-Shave Oil

A pre shave oil is is applied to the face before applying shaving soap or cream. It helps prevent irritation and razor burn by creating a protective layer on your skin.

Natural Organic Beard and Pre-Shave OilBenefits of a Pre-Shave Oil
  • Lubricates and moisturizes facial skin to provide protection from the razor irritation, razor burn, rashes or dry skin, especially helpful for those with sensitive skin.
  • Softens facial hair for a more comfortable shave.
  • When massaged into the beard it will lift whisker for a smoother cut and a slick surface for better glide.
  • Moisturizes and conditions facial skin.

  • Rub the oil between your hands to spread the oil around your palms and fingers.
  • Gently massage onto the area to be shaved.
  • If you have a beard that needs grooming as well, massage into the beard.
  • Allow the oil to absorb into your thirsty skin and do its works for about 30 seconds or more before applying the shaving lather.
  • Apply shaving lather directly on top of oiled skin and begin shaving.

A nice warm shower really helps hydrate your skin and facial hair before shaving. If you do not have time for a shower, wash your face with very warm water or use a hot towel before applying the pre-shave oil and give it time to really soak into the skin.

Why Use A Natural Deodorant

Why use a natural deodorant? The simple answer--why not! While many synthetic skin care ingredients are "considered safe” in small doses, I wonder how much is "a safe small dose" after 65 years.
