Carrot Seed Essential Oil, Daucus carota, is steam distilled from the dried seeds of the wild carrot plant, also known as Queen Anne’s lace.
Its aroma is earthy, dry, and herbaceous with subtle nutty and musky tones. It is not a traditionally “pretty” scent, but rather one that brings depth and a natural, grounded character to blends.

Carrot Seed Essential Oil vs Carrot Seed Oil vs Carrot Oil
“Carrot” oils can be confusing, as several different types exist:
- Carrot Seed Essential Oil is steam distilled from the seeds and is highly concentrated. It should always be diluted before use.
- Carrot Seed Oil (carrier oil) is cold-pressed from the seeds and can be used directly on the skin.
- Carrot Root Oil (infused oil) is made by infusing carrot roots into a carrier oil and is rich in naturally occurring compounds from the root, and can be used directly on the skin. (We make our own at Chagrin Valley)
Each has unique properties and uses, so it’s important to know which type of oil you are selecting.
