Geranium Essential Oil
Balancing, Calming, and Naturally Radiant
Geranium essential oil, Pelargonium graveolens, and its close relative Rose Geranium (Pelargonium graveolens var. roseum) share nearly identical compositions and benefits.
Both oils are steam distilled from the leaves and flowers of the plant and are prized for their soft, floral scent—Rose Geranium carrying a slightly more rose‑like nuance. Often called the “poor man’s rose,” geranium offers many of the same valued skin‑supportive qualities at a more accessible cost.
Geranium essential oil is suitable for all skin types thanks to its gentle, balancing nature.
Its mild astringent and clarifying qualities help minimize the look of enlarged pores, brighten dull areas, calm visible redness, and soothe irritated or reactive areas, for a more even-looking complexion that feels soft and refreshed.
In hair care, geranium’s balancing effect extends to the scalp, helping refresh the roots, ease oiliness, and support healthier‑looking hair.
Aromatherapy: Geranium essential oil has a sweet, floral aroma that feels both calming and uplifting. It helps ease stress, irritability, and emotional tension while promoting relaxation, steadiness, and a sense of well‑being.
Many find its scent soothing yet gently energizing, making it a favorite for grounding, reflection, and restoring emotional balance.
Its comforting fragrance is ideal for pillow mists, unwinding at the end of the day, or as a companion for yoga, meditation, or any quiet moment, helping enhance clarity, centeredness, balance, and inner ease.
Side note: The garden-center “geraniums” with bright red or pink blooms (Pelargonium x hortorum) are not the same plants used to make essential oil. Their scent is faint, and they are not suitable for distillation.
