Palmarosa essential oil, Cymbopogon martini, also known as Indian Geranium Oil, is steam distilled from a tall, wild grass native to India. Although palmarosa is not part of the rose family (it is actually a part of the lemongrass family), it contains a high percentage of geraniol, which is one of the major aromatic constituents in true Rose essential oil.
It has a soft floral, rose, and geranium-like scent with sweet honey and citrus undertones. Palmarosa, which regulates skin moisture and balances oil production, is good for both dry and oily complexions. It moisturizes, hydrates, and helps dull, mature skin to help improve the appearance of the skin. The antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and hydrating qualities may help ease skin irritations, including acne, dermatitis, dry skin, eczema, and psoriasis.
In hair care, palmarosa helps regulate sebum production.
