Bath Salt Recipe Ideas

Add Milk

Add Organic Milk to your BathMilk contains lactic acid, which is packed with skin-softening properties that leave skin feeling smoother. The lactic acid in milk acts similarly to the alpha hydroxyl acids found in expensive skin creams, which dissolve proteins that bind dead skin cells together for gentle exfoliation.

As you soak milk fats and proteins help to hydrate the skin and retain moisture to leave your skin smooth and soft. Milk baths are also great for soothing irritated skin and minor sunburn.

Add 1 - 2 cups of whole milk to your salt bath

Add Honey

Organic Raw HoneyHoney, a natural humectant, has been used topically as a healing agent for centuries! Adding honey to your bath will moisturize, soften, and soothe dry skin as you soak.

Honey can help deep clean pores while adding moisture to parched skin. Honey can help soothe irritated skin and also has skin-smoothing benefits thanks to its amino acids and antioxidants.

Dissolve 2 to 4 tablespoons of honey in some hot water. Add the honey water to your salt bath as the water is filling.

Add Bath Oil

Organic Natural Sore Muscle Bath Body Massage OilSalts and oils have long been combined in a therapeutic bath to relax the mind, soothe sore muscles, and promote soft supple skin.

Add extra moisture and softness to your skin by adding oil to your saltwater bathwater.

Take 2 tablespoons of your favorite organic oil, like coconut, sunflower or olive. Or try one of our Organic Bath Oils

Add the oil to your salt bath as the water is filling up.
(BE careful--the tub may be slippery)

No Time for a Bath?

Use Salts in your Shower!

  • Place 1/4 to 1/3 cup of salts into a muslin or cotton bag. Hang the bag from the shower head for a warm saltwater shower. Our scented bath salts will create scented a bit of scented steam.
  • Place 1/4 to 1/3 cup of salts into a muslin bag. Use the bag as a saltwater washcloth with soap or a salt water rinse.

Make Your Own Salt Rub

For a stimulating scrub for feet or extra rough skin, mix equal parts of salt and oil (like coconut, olive or try one of our bath oils) and gently massage the body. Salt rubs can be quite abrasive and irritating for those with sensitive or irritated skin. Our bath salts use some large crystal salts, so be careful.  We prefer sugar scrubs for exfoliation.

Bath Salts Are Not Created Equal

Organic Sore Muscle Bath SaltBe careful when choosing bath salts.

The idea of a salt bath is to receive the benefit from the mineral-rich salts and possibly essential oil aromatherapy.

Too often, the bath salts found in stores are nothing more than ordinary processed table salt mixed with fragrances.

Inexpensive salts are often processed and treated. When choosing bath salts, make sure the bath salt is 100% natural. When a bath salt is treated and processed, it loses the natural minerals and nutrients that carry all the benefits.

Many bath salt makers use Dendritic Salt in their recipes.

Dendritic salt, commercially manufactured and created by machines, does not have the benefits of naturally harvested salts. Since dendritic salt was created to have a greater surface area which allows it to hold fragrances and pretty colors better, many bath salt manufacturers love it.

The question is . . . do you want pretty bath salt or a therapeutic bath salt?

All of the salts we use to create our Organic Bath Salts are tested for purity, naturally harvested, untreated, and organic compliant.

A Few Words of Caution

While salt baths have many beneficial effects, people under a doctor's care for any condition should consult their healthcare provider before taking salt baths.

  • Since a salt bath can place extra pressure on the circulatory system, those who suffer from heart conditions should always consult their doctor first.
  • People with diabetes, kidney or liver disease, low or high blood pressure, recent illness, or any disease should check with their healthcare provider before using salt baths.
  • If you are pregnant, please discuss salt baths with your doctor or midwife.

Even a healthy person may begin to feel dizzy, or not well when taking a bath. If this happens, slowly get out, rest, and drink some water as you may be dehydrated. If you do not feel better soon, please seek medical advice.
