Mediterranean Sea Salt
Cleansing & Comforting Soaks
What Is Mediterranean Sea Salt?
Mediterranean sea salt is harvested from the clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea and naturally dried through sun and ocean air evaporation. This traditional harvesting method allows the salt to crystallize slowly without the use of heat, chemicals, or additives.
Unlike refined table salt, unrefined Mediterranean sea salt retains naturally occurring trace minerals that come from the surrounding seawater. While its mineral profile varies slightly by location, high-quality sea salt contains small amounts of minerals such as magnesium, calcium, and potassium.
Why We Use Mediterranean Sea Salt
Mediterranean sea salt plays different roles depending on how it’s used, and we choose it specifically for how it performs in both cleansing bars and warm-water products.
In Soap
When added to a soap recipe, Mediterranean sea salt offers benefits beyond texture alone. Sea salt has long been valued for its natural cleansing and antimicrobial-supporting properties, helping to limit the buildup of acne-associated bacteria on the skin’s surface. Its mineral content supports a gentle oil balance by helping lift excess sebum and pore-clogging debris.
When paired with ingredients like charcoal, sea salt helps create an environment that feels cleaner, calmer, and more balanced—making it especially useful in soaps formulated for oily or acne-prone skin.
In Bathing
In products designed to dissolve in warm water, such as bath salts and foot soaks, Mediterranean sea salt contributes to a mineral-rich soaking experience.
When dissolved, the salt disperses evenly, helping cleanse the skin, soften rough areas, and refresh tired feet and bodies. Warm salt water also enhances surface circulation and supports a relaxing, restorative soak.
Soaking in mineral-rich seawater has been valued for centuries. Ancient Greek and Roman cultures used warm seawater baths for relaxation and skin care—a practice now often referred to as thalassotherapy, from the Greek word thalassa, meaning sea.
While warm water alone is soothing, the addition of sea salt enhances the experience, leaving skin feeling refreshed, comfortable, and renewed.
Since the human body has a concentration of minerals and nutrients similar to seawater, it’s no wonder that sea salt works naturally to help balance, protect, and restore the skin.
How Mediterranean Sea Salt Supports the Skin
- Cleansing Support: Salt water helps lift surface impurities and excess oil from the skin.
- Skin Softening: Dissolved minerals help soften rough or tired skin, especially during longer soaks.
- Comfort & Refreshment: Warm sea salt baths are commonly used to ease everyday tension and leave skin feeling refreshed.
We do not recommend Sea Salt for general exfoliation. However, when used thoughtfully, fine salt crystals can help loosen dull skin on thicker areas of the body, such as feet, elbows, or other rough patches.
A Mediterranean sea salt bath is generally well tolerated by most skin types. As with all mineral salts, those with very sensitive or compromised skin may prefer shorter soak times or lower concentrations.
Ingredient Integrity
Our Mediterranean sea salt is unrefined, naturally evaporated, and free of additives, including anti-caking agents or conditioners. It is sourced to retain its natural mineral content and is organic compliant.
Buyer Beware
Lower-quality sea salts are often refined, a process that washes away naturally occurring trace minerals. Some commercial salts may also contain undisclosed additives. Authentic, unrefined sea salt should dissolve cleanly and feel smooth—not harsh—on the skin.
