Bay Laurel Essential Oil
Reviving for Mind, Skin & Scalp

Bay Laurel, Laurus nobilis, also known as sweet bay, comes from the same aromatic leaves used in Mediterranean cooking.

Steam distilled from the foliage of the evergreen laurel tree, this essential oil carries a complex scent that is spicy, slightly sweet, herbaceous, and at times medicinal, depending on where it is grown. European varieties tend to resemble culinary bay, while North African distillations often adopt more camphorous, eucalyptus-like tones.

Historically, bay laurel holds deep cultural significance. In Greek mythology, Apollo adopted the laurel as his sacred symbol after the nymph Daphne was transformed into the tree. Wreaths of bay crowned poets, scholars, and victors — a tradition that echoed the belief that laurel brought protection, wisdom, and clarity.

Topically, bay laurel essential oil is strong and must be well-diluted before use. When blended with a carrier oil, it can be massaged into sore joints or strained muscles, offering warmth and soothing comfort.

Its natural astringent, antimicrobial, and antifungal properties make it useful in skincare — particularly for oily, congested, or blemish-prone complexions. It may help refine the appearance of pores, support clearer-looking skin, and bring balance to areas prone to breakouts.

In hair care, bay laurel offers a stimulating effect that can promote a healthier-feeling scalp. It is traditionally used to encourage hair growth, support shine, reduce dandruff, and ease scalp discomfort associated with dryness or buildup.

Aromatherapy Properties: Bay laurel has a bright, uplifting aroma that blends camphorous and spicy notes with softer, sweet, fruity, and floral notes. It inspires confidence, creativity, and mental clarity while helping ease self-doubt or sluggish thinking. A wonderful diffuser choice for moments that require focus, inner strength, or renewed perspective.

Note: Bay Laurel Essential Oil (Laurus nobilis) is different from Bay Essential Oil (Pimenta racemosa). Their names sound similar, but they are distinct botanicals with unique aromatic profiles and uses.
