Nutmeg Essential Oil
Sweet, Warming Spice for Seasonal Soaps & Skincare
Nutmeg, Myristica fragrans, is steam distilled from the sun-dried seeds of the nutmeg tree, a tropical evergreen native to the Banda Islands, part of the Spice Islands of Indonesia.
The tree produces a yellow, peach-like fruit with a hard shell that splits open when ripe to reveal two distinct spices.
- Nutmeg is the shiny, oval seed of the tree
- Mace is the delicate, lacey, red covering that surrounds the seed.
Nutmeg is sweeter and more aromatic, while mace is spicier and subtler with notes of black pepper and cinnamon. Both have been treasured for centuries for their warm, comforting fragrance.
Nutmeg’s aroma is sweet, softly spiced, and gently balsamic — the scent of cozy kitchens and warm baked autumn treats. It brings a mellow, aromatic depth that feels instantly nostalgic.
We use it in our seasonal fall soaps and body care for the rounded spice note it adds. Its velvety, gently invigorating character pairs beautifully with cinnamon, clove, orange, and vanilla‑like notes.
Nutmeg is often chosen for blends meant to feel inviting, comforting, and gently uplifting — a soft spice note that brings emotional warmth and a sense of seasonal coziness that gently uplifts the mood during the colder, darker months.
