Cocoa Butter, Theobroma cacao, is a firm, creamy yellow butter with the unmistakable aroma of chocolate. It is pressed from the beans of the cacao tree, whose large, gourd-shaped pods contain 30 to 40 seeds. Once the beans are dried, roasted, and pressed, the rich vegetable fat is extracted, yielding this luxurious natural butter.
A superb all-over-body moisturizer, cocoa butter acts as an emollient that softens and soothes dry, rough, or itchy skin. It melts at body temperature, forming a light protective layer that helps lock in the skin’s natural moisture. With its combination of fatty acids and antioxidants, cocoa butter nourishes and comforts overworked or weather-exposed skin to help restore suppleness and elasticity.
Often found in formulations for stretch marks and scars, cocoa butter helps improve the skin’s texture and appearance by maintaining hydration and supporting flexibility. In soapmaking, it produces a hard, creamy, and highly moisturizing bar that’s perfect for dry skin.
In hair care, cocoa butter easily absorbs into the hair shaft, locking in moisture, adding softness, and enhancing shine.
It helps improve texture, reduce frizz, and strengthen strands—making it especially beneficial for coarse, curly, or chemically processed hair. Regular use can help replenish lost oils and protect against breakage.
Our unrefined, organic cocoa butter has not been bleached or deodorized, which ensures that all of its nourishing properties remain intact-plus, it smells good enough to eat!
Note: The terms “cocoa butter” and “cacao butter” are often used interchangeably. Both come from the same plant; the difference lies in processing. Cacao butter is extracted at lower temperatures (under 115°F) and considered more “raw,” while cocoa butter is gently roasted for its characteristic scent and smooth consistency.
