Product Overview

Whether you call them bath teas or bathing herbs, the skin-pampering blend of soothing and softening botanicals, oats and Himalayan Pink Sea salt will help ease symptoms associated with dry skin, rashes, and itchy or inflamed skin. Each ingredient has been chosen for its skin-calming properties.

  • Oatmeal is a soothing, anti-inflammatory grain that helps calm dry, inflamed, and sensitive skin.
  • Calendula, used for burns, inflammations, insect bites, rashes, and skin disorders is great for folks with sensitive skin. It helps soothe many types of irritated skin conditions that may cause dry, itchy, or irritated skin.
  • For centuries herbalists have rubbed marsh mallow roots on insect bites, burns, and rashes. Marsh mallow's mucilage content helps soothe, moisturized, and protect dry, irritated, or inflamed skin and scalp.
  • Dandelion has anti-inflammatory properties that can help soothe irritated skin conditions. It also has antibacterial and antifungal properties that can help clear out pores to decrease acne and dsicourage acne breakouts in the future.
  • Elder Flowers, an anti-inflammatory herb, helps heal rashes, cuts, and wounds
  • Himalayan salt, long known for its soothing, softening, and healing properties helps relieve tension and may even help with arthritis. Our Himalayan salt is organic compliant.

Each package (1 bag) contains about 1 1/2 cups of tea, enough for 3 - 6 soothing baths

Reusable cotton muslin bag included!

We purchase our organic oats and oat flour from Stutzman's Farms. Read more about Stutzman's Farms in the FAQs on this page.

How To Use

Directions for a Simple Herbal Bath

  • Fill the muslin bag with 1/4 to 1/2 cup of herbs (tightly close the top!)
    • Every bathtub is different -- Start out with the smaller amount and see how it feels
    • The idea is NOT to fill up the bag with bathing herbs. The larger bag allows water to flow more freely around the herbs!
    • It is not true that if a small amount works well, then a large amount will work even better!
  • Add the herbal tea bag to your tub
    • Hang the bag from the faucet and allow warm water (the temperature that is comfortable for you!) to run through the bag while the tub fills. When the tub is full, remove the pouch from the spout and let it float in the tub, continuing to steep in the bathwater.
OR place the bag in the bath under warm running water (the temperature that is comfortable for you!) until the tub fills and then let it float in the tub, continuing to steep in the bathwater.
  • Squeeze bag to release the botanical essence. Relax and soak for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • After your bath empty and rinse the reusable muslin bag and allow it to dry.

An herbal bath is a time to relax the body not cleanse it
-- no soap or bubble bath! If you need to wash take a shower before. To get the full benefit from an herbal soak, simply towel dry when you leave the tub.

The herbal bag may be used as a compress on your temples, neck, or other pulse points. Use as an “herbal washcloth,” with or without soap. When finished empty and rinse the bag and allow it to dry.

No time for a bath or No bathtub? Our bathing herbs (also known as bath or tub teas) are very versatile!

  • Use the herbal bag as a warm or cool compress on your temples, neck, or other pulse points
  • Use a small amount to make a soothing foot bath!
  • Use the herbal bag in the shower as an “herbal washcloth.”
  • After using in your tub place the whole bag in the dryer to add a fresh scent (works great with towels and linens).

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Use An Organic Bath Tea?
Whether you call them "bath teas," "bathing herbs," or "bathtub teas," soaking in a warm fragrant herbal bath provides a quiet sanctuary in which to retreat, reflect and refresh.

The healing properties trapped in the herbs and released by the water can help boost your mood, calm the mind, soothe sore muscles and joints, opens pores, soften skin, and promote more restful sleep.

As the beneficial properties of the herbs are released into the water, a pleasant aroma fills the air which provides soul therapy, skin therapy, and aromatherapy all in one.

So, draw a warm bath infused with fragrant or therapeutic herbs, light a few natural candles, play soothing music, and relax. It may just be the perfect medicine for whatever ails you.

Discover Your Creative Spirit

Herbal bath teas are perfect all on their own but anytime you prepare an herbal bath you can combine bathing herbs with other great skincare additives most of which can be found in your kitchen cupboards.

A Few Important Notes:

Despite the many advantages, a warm bath may not be recommended for everyone.

  • Do not use very hot water
  • Do not soak for more than 15-20 minutes each time
  • If you have a heart condition or any medical condition, consult with your doctor before beginning a new bathing routine
  • If you are pregnant, please discuss baths with your doctor or midwife
  • Keep some cool drinking water nearby
  • Even a healthy person may begin to feel dizzy, or not well when taking a bath. If this happens, slowly get out, rest and drink some water as you may be dehydrated. If you do not feel better soon, please seek medical advice.

Are Chagrin Valley Ingredients & Products USDA Certified Organic?

Chagrin Valley Soap & Salve is a USDA Certified Organic Company

Certified Organic Skin Care

The most important consideration in any business is its customers. Today's world of misleading claims, false advertising, and simple deception, often leaves consumers trying to discover the truth about personal products and their ingredients.

  • We want our customers to know that we are committed to transparency in everything we do.
  • We want our customers to know that when we say "organic," we mean it.
  • We believe that in becoming a USDA Certified Organic company, our customers do not have to wonder if we really use certified organic ingredients or if our organic products are truly organic.
  • So we choose to be a certified organic company and abide by the strict standards required for organic certification.

Some of my favorite products are made with ingredients that just do not exist as certified organic. Why? At this time there are no standards created for ingredients specifically used in the personal care product industry. Organic certification of personal care products is based on the organic food standards set by the National Organic Program of the USDA.

But since we are a certified organic company, we are required to submit documentation that even our "non-organic ingredients" were produced without the use of toxic pesticides, genetically modified organisms (GMOs), sewage sludge, or irradiation.

Why We Use Stutzman Farms' Oat Products
Stutzman Farms, in Millersburg, is located right in the heart of the beautiful Ohio Amish farms of Holmes County. Monroe Stutzman runs the main Stutzman grains farm where they grow and mill organic grains in the traditional stone-ground fashion.

Stutzman Farms focuses on local and organic farming, as well as an on-site mill.

They do not bleach their flours or oats and do not use bromate or preservatives. They have many customers who follow a gluten-free diet and use their sprouted rolled oat and spelt flour. He has an amazing device called a ‘puffer’ which he uses to puff rice and corn that they then sweeten and sell all over Ohio.

Monroe's brother Arlie runs "Ice Shanty Cheese" and makes cheese from 100% grass-fed cow’s milk.

At Chagrin Valley Soap we believe in the power of small businesses and know they are the engine that drives our country. Small business owners and employees have expertise in their industry, passion for the products they manufacture and sell, value their customers and take a special pride in their trade.
