Product Overview

Think about the daily assault on your hands, washing, drying, (often sanitizing) over and over again, every day. That constant exposure strips away moisture and weakens the skin’s natural moisture barrier.

Yes, your hands do a lot of work for you, so let our Helping Hands Balm do some hard work for your hands by providing the daily TLC they need.

This ultra-rich organic hand cream, brimming with nourishing plant oils, cocoa butter, beeswax, and soothing botanicals, forms a breathable barrier that seals in moisture, soothes, softens, and helps skin stay comfortable and resilient. The perfect solution for overworked hands that do work.

Why a Balm Works Better for Hardworking Skin

Lotions are mostly water — often 70–90%. They can feel nice at first, but once that water evaporates, dry skin usually returns quickly.

This balm works differently. Using plant oils, butters, and beeswax helps:

  • Seal in moisture and support skin that struggles with dryness.
  • Reduce ongoing moisture loss
  • Protect skin from repeated exposure to drying conditions

Our rich, water-free balm is designed to help protect dry, overworked skin from further dehydration. Because it contains no added water, a little goes a long way — and there’s no need for preservatives.

Why It Works

This ultra-rich balm relies on time-tested emollients to support moisture retention:

  • Unrefined Shea Butter — helps soften dry skin and support the skin’s natural moisture barrier
  • Coconut Oil & Sunflower Seed Oil — plant oils that help condition skin and support moisture retention
  • Beeswax — forms a protective, breathable barrier that helps prevent moisture loss

Together, these ingredients help keep skin moisturized, protect against dryness, and improve the feel of rough skin.

More Than Just for Hands

Despite the name, this versatile balm works beautifully on:

  • Dry patches everywhere
  • Rough elbows and knees
  • Dry cracked heels (for sandal-ready feet)

Truly a helping hand for every part of your body.

How To Use

Natural Healing Hand CreamGently massage the balm onto clean hands daily after work, gardening, leisure activities, or anytime your hands needs a little extra care (especially during Winter). For best results, apply after washing hands thoroughly, while hands are still warm.

  • Very concentrated--so a little goes a long way
  • Apply to dry skin trouble spots as needed throughout the day
  • Within minutes it melts into your skin--leaving skin feeling ultra soft and supple
  • Especially effective if used when skin is still warm and damp after washing or bathing

Dry, chapped hands, especially after washing, is a common problem. Here are some tips to help.

  • Soap: Use a mild, moisturizing natural soap and stay away from detergent bars or liquid washes
  • Water temperature: Very hot water can cause your skin to lose moisture more rapidly, leading to dryness. So keep the temperature lukewarm.
  • Hand sanitizers are great to use when soap and water are not available, but many can dry and irritate skin. Moisturize your hands after the hand sanitizer has dried. Our Lotion Bars are easy to carry for some portable hand TLC.
  • Gently dry hands. Your first instinct is probably to dry your hands until not even a drop of water is left. But it’s actually better to leave your hands a bit damp after drying it helps seal in moisture when using a moisturizer.
  • Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!  Use a gentle, natural, fragrance-free moisturizer.  Stay away from lotions (which are mostly water) and go straight to a thick cream or salve that is rich and thick to provide more moisture to your skin.

If you have very sensitive skin or are simply trying a new product for the first time, we always recommend doing a patch test.

For external use only. Discontinue use if irritation occurs. Best if used within 6 months of opening.

Holy grail of hand creams!

"This is literally the BEST hand cream I have ever used. As it’s a nice thick balm a little goes a long way. I’ve also put this on elbows and feet. Since I find it heals up rough skin quickly"

Perfect Hand Cream!

"After decades of searching I have finally found the PERFECT hand cream. No weird chemicals that irritate skin. Healing compounds to help with dry winter hands. I started routinely using this on my husband’s hands when they were chapped and bleeding this year and they’ve improved SO much. It’s a nice thick balm so you really don’t need to apply much either."

I just start using and

"I just start using and I think I like it."

DIANE S. (5/5)

"Game changer!! My desire to eliminate plastic from my skincare routine has resulted in a match made in heaven for my temperamental dry, mature skin. I've never used a balm before, but after watching estheticians use it on YouTube on their clients, I thought I would give it a try. Not only is it great for my hands, but I'm now using it on my face as well. I just rub my fingertips into the balm, add a little water, emulsify, and apply. A little goes a long way, and it makes my skin feel soft, soothed, and protected all day, without any greasiness or irritation. And the scent is heavenly too! So not only can I ditch my hand lotion in the plastic squeeze bottle, but I get to eliminate extra steps and products. Highly, and enthusiastically, recommend!"

Tabitha (5/5)

Best hand cream ever

"This is THE best hand cream ever. I gave it out as stocking stuffers last year, and several people requested it again this year. I like that it melts into my skin without feeling greasy or sticky, and that my skin feels softer after repeated use. It's a must-have for winter, but great to use all year."

Amazing product

"I have a jar of this everywhere. It soothes my dry skin and greatly helps when it is itchy or inflamed. I put this on my sons sunburn and fir the first time he did not blister and peel. He had his wife purchase some for my granddaughter. Love this product"

Q&A

Hi there, I've been a fan of the helping hands balm for many years. Through the packaging and name change :-) And recently when I got my delivery the balm has a notable smell change and I noticed the recipe is different as well. I'm curious why it changed. It seems to be missing a lot of the botanicals. I'm really missing the old smell and the herbs. Thank you!
Hi Willow, Thanks so much for reaching out! We did change the recipe on the helping hand balm, we apologize you are not happy with these changes! We made the newer formulation to be overall more gentle on the skin without as strong of a scent but with all the same skin soothing benefits. We found that a lot of customers thought it was a bit too overpowering of a scent to be using regularly on their hands. We again apologize you were not happy with these changes! If you are unhappy with the product or not able to use it, let us know and I can issue you a refund or a store credit to try a different product that might be more to your liking. I hope this helps! Our apologies again for the inconvenience and I look forward to hearing back from you soon! -Christina, Chagrin Valley
This question is about the smell or scent of the Hand Balm. When I did the Help Me Choose, I put in "no added scent," and the Hand Balm is one of the products that came up. Several reviewers say the product smells wonderful, so I wonder what scent they're referring to? Could it be the herbs in it, such as peppermint, which has a strong smell? (Note: I am fine with the smell of unrefined shea.) My husband has reactive asthma, so I have to make sure I'm not wearing body products that bother him. . . . If you believe this product has a notable scent, is there another product(s) you would recommend for dry, aging hands that has no added scent? I would order that one instead. Many thanks!
Hi Caroline, Thanks so much for reaching out! While our healing hand balm does not have any added essential oils, it does have some herbs and botanicals steeped into the oil blend so it does have a very mild earthy/ mint scent to it. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and have a great day! -Christina, Chagrin Valley
Is the container glass (ie. recyclable)? does it come in any other (larger) size?
Hi Caroline, Thanks so much for reaching out! Yes, the container for the Intense healing hand balm is glass! Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns and have a great day! -Christina, Chagrin Valley

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Should I Use A Natural Organic Body Cream?

Why use a natural organic body cream . . .

It is Natural

Natural Organic Whipped Cocoa Butter Body ButterWell, first of all, it's an all-natural product. Commercial lotions are NOT. Our Body Balms and Whipped Shea Butters only contain the ingredients that they need to moisturize your skin.

Creams and lotions formulated with synthetic ingredients often aggravate sensitive skin, exacerbate irritated skin conditions, and trigger allergic dermatitis.

The organic oils and butters we use do NOT contain petroleum based chemicals (Mineral Oil, Petrolatum, Paraffin), chemical emulsifiers (DEA, MEA, TEA), chemical preservatives (Parabens, Urea), Propylene Glycol, artificial colors, or synthetic fragrances.

No Preservatives

Have you ever noticed that when you use your body lotion your skin never stays moist and you find yourself going back to the lotion bottle over and over?

Look at the ingredients. The main ingredient in lotion is water! Once water is added to make a lotion, preservatives are needed to prevent mold and bacteria growth.

No Alcohol or Petroleum Ingredients

Commercial lotions often contain isopropyl alcohol and/or mineral oil. Both of these actually are very drying to your skin. The alcohol gives a temporary sense of coolness due to evaporation.

Mineral oil is a clear, liquid oil with no scent and will not spoil. It is very inexpensive because it is the liquid by-product of the distillation of petroleum to produce gasoline and other petroleum-based products from crude oil. It is found in lotions, soaps, baby oil, cosmetics, and motor oil. Mineral oil

It is great for oiling your wooden cutting boards--but not your skin. Mineral oil does not penetrate to soften. It is difficult to absorb, coats your skin and clogs the pores. If you would like to have healthy skin, stay away from mineral oils, animal fat, petroleum, and synthetic oil based skincare.

It Has So Many Uses

We know that natural body butters make great moisturizing body creams. But here are some other ways we have used these balms and butters:

  • Get rid of those cracked heels
  • Gently massage into very dry areas on your face
  • Soothe and smooth skin after shaving
  • Add a dollop to your hot bath water instead of using synthetic bath oils
  • Massage some into your cuticles to soften them
  • Massage into your lips for a great all natural lip balm

HINT: If you enjoy the application "feeling" of a lotion better than a cream, try massaging our rich Whipped Butters into warm, wet skin after a bath or shower. Wait a few moments and gently pat dry. (Do not rub the skin dry!)

Since a lotion is just a lot of water mixed with oils, a rich natural butter on warm wet skin will have a similar feel.

Remember, the skin is the body's largest organ
and it needs to breathe as part of its
important role in maintaining overall health!

Are Chagrin Valley Ingredients & Products USDA Certified Organic?

Chagrin Valley Soap & Salve is a USDA Certified Organic Company

Certified Organic Skin Care

The most important consideration in any business is its customers. Today's world of misleading claims, false advertising, and simple deception, often leaves consumers trying to discover the truth about personal products and their ingredients.

  • We want our customers to know that we are committed to transparency in everything we do.
  • We want our customers to know that when we say "organic," we mean it.
  • We believe that in becoming a USDA Certified Organic company, our customers do not have to wonder if we really use certified organic ingredients or if our organic products are truly organic.
  • So we choose to be a certified organic company and abide by the strict standards required for organic certification.

Some of my favorite products are made with ingredients that just do not exist as certified organic. Why? At this time there are no standards created for ingredients specifically used in the personal care product industry. Organic certification of personal care products is based on the organic food standards set by the National Organic Program of the USDA.

But since we are a certified organic company, we are required to submit documentation that even our "non-organic ingredients" were produced without the use of toxic pesticides, genetically modified organisms (GMOs), sewage sludge, or irradiation.
