Product Overview

Good For: All Hair Types · Oily Summer Scalp · Dry or Sun-Exposed Hair · Frizz-Prone Hair

Formulated with organic coconut milk, lightweight plant oils, gentle clay, and a bright citrus-floral essential oil blend, this bar was created for hair that needs balance — especially in warm weather, when scalps tend to feel oilier while lengths become dry from sun and wind. It’s refreshing and nourishing, leaving hair soft and naturally shiny.

Scent

The scent is warm, fresh, and quietly joyful. Bright notes of grapefruit, lime, and orange rise first — crisp and sunlit — followed by lavender’s gentle calm and rosemary’s clean herbal clarity. Ylang ylang adds a soft, creamy floral warmth that rounds everything out.

Beyond the aroma, the blend was chosen to feel refreshing and lightly invigorating on the scalp, supporting a natural sense of balance rather than a sharp or cooling tingle. The overall effect is uplifting and relaxing at the same time, like warm air moving through a grove of fruit trees and flowering herbs.

How It Feels in Use

The bar glides smoothly over wet hair, building a light, creamy lather that spreads easily and rinses clean without leaving hair tangled or heavy. Coconut milk and sunflower oil support softness and moisture balance, while babassu oil adds light conditioning and body. Kaolin clay contributes a gentle, refined cleanse that helps hair feel fresh at the roots and flexible through the lengths.

After rinsing, the scalp feels lightly refreshed and comfortable, while the hair feels clean but not dry, light but not flyaway — with natural bounce, improved manageability, and a soft, healthy shine.

Ingredients Behind the Bar

Every ingredient has a purpose, working together to create a balanced, summertime-friendly shampoo bar that supports both scalp comfort and beautiful hair texture.

Highlights of this formula:

  • Coconut Milk — Adds gentle nourishment to the bar, contributes a creamy, conditioning lather, and helps soothe dry scalps while supporting smoother hair texture and reduced frizz.
  • Sunflower Oil — A lightweight oil that supports moisture retention, softness, and natural shine without weighing hair down, especially helpful for hair that feels dry or dull after sun exposure.
  • Babassu Oil: Brings a light, airy feel to the lather, adds smoothness, body, and flexibility to the hair, softens coarse or brittle strands, and supports a fuller, more resilient feel, especially helpful for hair that feels dry or limp
  • Kaolin Clay: A very gentle clay that adds mild oil-absorbing properties, enhances slip, and gives the lather a soft, clean finish — supporting freshness at the scalp without dryness.
  • Essential Oils: Chosen for their bright citrus-floral character and long history of use in scalp-focused hair care, they create an aroma that feels refreshing, balanced, and naturally uplifting.

Summer Sunshine is a bright, easy-to-love shampoo bar for those who want clean hair, soft movement, and natural shine — with a scent that captures the feeling of warm air, open skies, and fresh citrus in bloom.

Sun-kissed scent. Soft hair. Natural shine.

How To Use

Why Is A Shampooing Technique Important?

Finding the right bar is important  but we believe that using the proper technique to wash your hair is  the best way to ensure a successful transition from synthetic shampoo to natural shampoo bars.

Our natural shampoo bars are a lot more concentrated than liquid shampoos. They contain extra oils and butters to nourish hair.

If you do not build a nice lather and rinse really well you will have areas that remain coated with the soap oils, which can make it look or feel “gummy.”

***Notice in the techniques below that we do NOT recommend lathering up the length of your hair with the shampoo bar. As you use your fingers to rinse the lather through the strands, there is enough shampoo to clean the length. These techniques help prevent coating your hair strands with shampoo residue.

If you are new to shampoo bars please our blog, "How to Use a Natural Shampoo Bar" for more detailed information.

Our Favorite Technique

This technique helps prevent pockets of shampoo residue in the length of your hair especially if you have long or thick hair.

Wet Hair: One of the most important steps is to begin with thoroughly wet hair--I mean a lot of water. Be sure that the water saturates your hair all the way down to the roots.

Create the Lather: There are two possible ways both of which help prevent pockets of shampoo residue left in your hair that can make hair feel tacky.

  • Create a nice foamy lather by rubbing the wet bar between your hands and use only the lather to wash your scalp. This is the best method for people with thick hair, curly hair, coarse coily/kinky hair, and those new to shampoo bars.
  • Create a nice foamy lather by rubbing the shampoo bar on the TOP of your head only. Rub in only one direction to prevent tangling. This method can work well for thinner hair types.

How To Lather Using a Natural Shampoo BarMassage the Lather into your Scalp only at the roots of the hair until you work up a really good lather

  • It is very important to work the shampoo into your scalp with water and really build up a good lather so there are no patches of shampoo left on your hair.
  • Lathering up also allows the dirt and extra oils to be washed away.
  • If the lather is not foamy enough, add more water.

Using your Fingers like a Comb: smooth the lather down the length of your hair as you rinse with water. To prevent tangles, be sure to always work from the top down, use your fingers like a comb, not a mixer, and don't pile your hair on your head,

Rinse, rinse, rinse, rinse and rinse again. I cannot stress how important this step is to shampoo bar success. In order to remove the excess shampoo, which can leave a filmy feeling and weigh hair down, do NOT rush this step! The rinsing should take longer than washing and lathering time.

  • If your hair is long or thick, lift up sections of your hair to ensure that all of the shampoo is rinsed clean.
  • Don’t neglect parts of your head that are more difficult to reach, such as the nape of your neck or the back of your head.
  • Repeat if desired.

If your hair has a residue before or after shampooing, use an Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse or a baking soda clarifying rinse

Not for fine hair

"This did not work for my fine hair. I used for about a month and my hair felt waxy the whole time. I used an all natural liquid shampoo prior so it’s hard to think I needed a transition period. My hair was also dull and lifeless while using this. I rinsed with the apple cider vinegar and that still did nothing for me."

Q&A

I've used Ecoganics shampoo bar and it didnt make my hair feel waxy why does this shampoo bar make my hair feel waxy?
Hi Cortney, Thanks so much for reaching out! Our shampoo bars are formulated with oils, butters and essential oils. Most companies use some kind of detergent or chemical in the bar that helps remove the product from the hair. With our bars, your hair has to learn to do this on its own which in the long run is wonderful for your hair and scalp as it does not strip it of its oils! This transition where your hair feels waxy can last up to two weeks. If you notice it for longer, you might need to try a different bar! You can also add in an Apple Cider Vinegar Hair rinse to help pull out excess product build up. I hope this helps! Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns and have a great rest of your day! -Christina, Chagrin Valley
If I placed your shampoo bar in a crochet like bag to save the bar from getting too dirty from debris.. (bathrooms do get nasty) and from getting to wet and not drying out. Would it change the effect on my hair if I use it while in the bag? Would that be too rough on my hair? Or just place it in the bag between washes? Also, I have experienced with your bars that after the first wash my hair feels dry. After so many washes it feels super soft.. but then if washed too often it gets waxy which is how it feels after the first wash. What can I do too stop the waxiness, and/or excess oil which makes me wash it more often? I have used your henna and summer sunshine before. Plus a few others. I don’t stick with them long because of the waxiness that weighs down my hair after awhile.
Hi Eva, Thanks so much for reaching out! Putting the bar in a crochet bag should not have any effect on the quality of the bar or how well it works on your hair. As long as the bar is able to dry well in between uses it should be just fine! As far as the waxiness goes, it can take some time for your hair to adjust to using a shampoo bar. For most customers, they experience a two week period of their hair feeling waxy due to excess oil and product being built up on the scalp and hair. It helps if you stick with the same shampoo bar for two weeks to see if your hair adjusts to the bar. If it has already been two weeks and you are still experiencing this, it might be that the bar you are using is too heavy for your hair type. Using an apple cider vinegar rinse can also help to remove excess oil and product. You want to make sure you are lathering the bar very well when using. If you do not have enough lather, you are essentially rubbing the oils and butters directly onto your scalp and this can exacerbate the waxy feeling. I hope this helps a bit! Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns and have a great day! -Christina, Chagrin Valley
Do you have a certain shampoo bar you would recommend to a swimmer whose hair is constantly bombarded by pool chemicals?
Hi Michaela, Thanks so much for your question! The first and most simple thing you really should do (if you aren't already) is a hair soak! It's FREE and simple and makes a big difference. All you need to do is to saturate your hair with NON-chlorinated water before getting into the pool. This is a great technique. The hair strands can only be saturated by a liquid to a certain point, before they will not absorb much more or will at least absorb much more slowly and much less. Soaking your hair for 1-2 FULL minutes in water (in a shower or sink) will saturate the hair strands with fresh water, not allowing them to absorb anywhere near as much chlorinated water in the end! It's important to do it for at least a full 60 seconds so the hair gets as fully saturated as possible. Then, once you have that 'shield' on to protect the hair, you need to use a cleanser that is both gentle and moisturizing. Our handmade bars are very nourishing and moisturizing and most importantly, gentle. As for which bars to use, I highly recommend bars with no essential oils for scent, as they can be drying. I also suggest lighter oils in the ingredients, to help keep the hair 'clear' as you mentioned. The BEST bars to look at would be our Coconut Milk and our Soapnuts bars. The soapnuts bar is my number one recommendation. For clarifying, you should also look at using a Clarifying Baking Soda rinse from time to time. Here is our info on how to do that: http://www.chagrinvalleysoapandsalve.com/idascorner/shampbakesoda.aspx Hopefully that helps. Using a moisturizing and gentle shampoo bar in combo with a saturating rinse, should help a lot to keep the hair softer and healthier. -Christina, Chagrin Valley
Hello! I love your shampoo soaps. I tried a sample of your summer sunshine, but I am still having problems finding a soap that's light because I have oily hair. Even after I shampoo and rinse really well and do the vinegar rinse, my hair still feels sticky at the ends when drying. Can u tell me which shampoo bars are in the lighter side? I will also switch to different bars, I read from a customer that she does this. I really like your product hope I can find one soap that does not make my hair sticky. Don't want to do back to commercial shampoo with sodium laureth which we know is not good for the hair. Thanks
Hi There, Thanks for your question! I would recommend trying the Coconut Milk or Soapnuts shampoo bars. These bars are very moisturizing yet light and rinse out very clean which helps to reduce that sticky feeling you're explaining! These are great bars for most hair types and help to shorten the adjustment period that you may experience when switching over to a shampoo bar. Hope this helps! Thanks again for reaching out and please contact us anytime with additional questions! -Christina
Is this gluten free what’s in wheat germ oil?
Hi There, Thanks for your question! Our Summer Sunshine shampoo bar is not gluten free. Frequently Asked Questions

What Is Your Natural Hair Type?

 What Is Your Hair Type?

In my youth, I had pin-straight hair and was envious of friends with wavy and curly hair. But those friends were jealous of my straight hair! Whether your hair type is straight, wavy, curly, coily, or somewhere in between, your locks are beautiful.

In the same way that understanding your skin type is important for creating an effective skincare routine, determining your hair type can play a huge role in helping you to reach your hair goals.

Hair type has 4 major categories: straight hair (type 1), wavy hair (type 2), curly hair (type 3), and coily hair (type 4). These 4 types of hair are further categorized into A, B, and C subtypes creating 12 total categories.

Natural Organic Hair Care Hair Types

The best way to determine your hair type is to see your hair in its natural state. By simply looking at your hair you can recognize some obvious characteristics. The next time you wash your hair, allow it to air-dry without any styling or hair products. This will help you to define the natural shape or pattern (texture) of your hair. For example:

Natural Hair Care What Is Your Hair Type

  • If your hair dries straight without a bend or curl, then you have straight hair (type 1).
  • If your hair dries with a slight curve or “S” shape, then you have wavy hair (type 2).
  • If your hair dries with a defined curl, then you have curly hair (type 3). This type of curly hair has springy ringlets or corkscrew curl patterns, but is not as dense as coily hair.
  • If, as your hair dries, it shrinks to form tight curls or dense spirals, then you have coily hair (type 4), which is often called a "natural" hair type. This hair type is more fragile and prone to breakage than others, requiring a more specialized hair care routine.

It is important to remember that most people do not have just one type of hair. They often have two different hair textures on various parts of their head.

Each of these hair textures will need special care and attention to enhance its natural best characteristics. Also, even though two people share the same natural wave, it does not mean they possess the same exact hair type. You are unique!

Hair Density vs. Hair Texture: Not the Same Thing

The terms "thick hair" and "thin hair " can be confusing. You can have dense fine hair — meaning lots of thin strands packed together — or coarse hair that’s sparse — fewer thick strands spread farther apart.

Hair Texture: The Thickness of Each Strand

The texture of your hair is determined by the thickness or diameter of an individual hair strand. There are 3 basic categories:

  • Thin or fine
  • Medium
  • Thick or coarse

To determine your hair texture, use a single strand of hair and compare it to the size of a piece of typical sewing thread.

  • Fine hair is thinner than a thread
  • Medium hair is similar in width
  • Coarse hair is wider.

Thin hair does not style very easily. Medium hair is relatively easy to style and can hold curls for a longer time period. Thicker strands are very easy to curl, but because they are less pliable, they can be difficult to style or hold their shape.

Texture is what determines how your hair feels between your fingers and how it responds to moisture and styling.

Hair Density: How Much Hair You Have on Your Scalp

Hair density is the number of hair strands per square inch of your scalp.

  • Low density: Fewer hair follicles per inch — the scalp may show through.
  • Medium density: Moderate coverage with a little scalp visibility.
  • High density: Many strands growing close together — hair looks full and voluminous.

Density affects how hair looks overall, how hair will react to certain products, and how well it will hold different hairstyles. People with low-density hair often do better with lightweight products, while high-density hair may need richer formulas to coat every strand.

What Is Hair Porosity?

Natural Hair Care Hair Porosity Test

Porosity refers to your hair’s ability to absorb moisture as well as hair products. You can easily determine the porosity of your hair with a simple experiment.

  • Place a single strand of hair into a bowl of water.
  • Does the strand sink to the bottom? If yes, it has high porosity, which means it is soaking up a lot of moisture due to gaps or tears around the cuticle..
  • Does the strand sink, but only a bit? If yes, your hair is absorbing just enough moisture to keep it healthy and well-balanced.
  • Does the strand float above the surface of the water? If yes, your hair has low porosity, which means it does not absorb moisture easily.

It seems like hair with high porosity would be well hydrated all the time since it can easily absorb moisture easily. However, due to the gap areas around the cuticle, the hair also loses moisture very easily, which can result in hair that is dry, brittle, frizzy, and prone to breakage.

On the other hand, that flattened cuticles of hair with a low porosity actually blocks moisture from being absorbed into the strands. Since hair care products are not readily absorbed, product buildup on hair strands is often a problem. Hair care products should be applied sparingly while hair is still damp so product is more easily absorbed and distributed.

To keep your hair healthy and nourished, it is important to develop a haircare routine that includes proper hydration. Knowing your hair type is crucial, as it helps you choose the right products for straight, wavy, curly, or coily/kinky hair.

Can I Use A Natural Shampoo Bar With Color Treated Hair?

Most people find that shampoo bars are easier on color-treated hair than commercial shampoos.

We have many customers who color their hair and use our gentle shampoo bars. One customer who "darkens" her hair wrote to tell us that she is now able to go one month longer before recoloring her hair.

Another customer who "lightens" her hair, wrote that the color stays "nicer" longer and she does not get that "brassy" blonde color anymore.

All of our shampoo bars are mild enough for color-treated hair, but since everyone's hair and coloring products are different, please do a strand test to judge for yourself.

To do a strand test, shampoo a strand of hair in a non-conspicuous area and rinse. Notice if there are any changes.

For color-treated hair, we recommend creating a lather in your hands rather than rubbing the bar directly on your head. Then using your fingers massage the lather into your scalp at the roots of the hair until you work up a really good lather.

It is also best to rinse color-treated hair with cool or lukewarm, not hot, water.

Choose your shampoo bar based on your hair type, knowing that coloring hair may change its texture.

Permanent hair color does not simply stain your hair but penetrates the shaft to alter the natural hair pigment. Since the outer cuticle of the hair has been penetrated by the hair dye, your natural hair oil may have trouble penetrating the hair shaft. As a result, your hair may become more dry or brittle.

Since it takes time for the hair cuticles to fully close and trap in the color, be sure to follow the directions from your salon or the product package as to how soon you should shampoo after coloring hair.

Also, note that chlorinated water can change the hue of your color-treated hair.

The good thing about the shampoo bars is that they actually prolong color - before I started using them, I'd have to dye my hair every 3 weeks, now it's every 5-6 weeks. Venessa, Indiana

What Is A Natural Shampoo Bar?

Shampoo Bars Are One Of Our Favorite Discoveries!

The wholesome goodness of our handcrafted soap is available for your hair.

Shampoo bars are an all natural conditioning shampoo in a solid bar form. Yes, this is real shampoo in a solid bar. Shampoo bars are not a new idea.

They were commonly used before liquid detergent shampoos and conditions were invented in the 1940s.

Although the process for making a shampoo bar is the same as making soap, our shampoo bar "recipes" are specially formulated with natural plant oils, butters, botanicals and essential oils that nourish your hair and scalp.

Our shampoo bars contain no artificial fragrance, color, preservatives, detergents, alcohol, urea, formaldehyde, sodium lauryl sulfate, DEA, propylene glycol - or any of the other synthetic hair care additives.

Each of our shampoo bar selections contains a different blend of natural plant oils, essential oils, and herb infused oils. No two recipes are the same.

Will My Hair Need To Adjust To A Natural Shampoo Bar? If so, any tips?

Conventional shampoos and conditioners, even some that claim to be natural, contain waxes, silicones, or other additives that coat your hair to make it feel smooth. They also contain synthetic detergents which rinse out more easily than a soap-based shampoo bar.

Since our natural sulfate-free shampoo bars do not strip hair like detergent-based shampoos, you may notice your hair feels different immediately after washing because your hair is accustomed to the squeaky clean feel of a detergent-based shampoo.

Switching from conventional shampoo to a natural shampoo bar may mean a transition or adjustment period. While many folks have little problem with their hair adjusting to a new routine, some do.

Since everyone's hair is unique it is difficult to tell you exactly what your transition, if any, will look and feel like. Your hair may feel greasier than normal or it may even feel drier than normal. It may feel waxy, coated, or just weird as your scalp works to re-balance its oil production.

The transition period can range from a few days to a few weeks. It really depends on how damaged your hair is, how much residue and build-up is present, your genetics, your water, and even the technique that you use to shampoo your hair.

Transition is literally a time for your hair, which has been addicted to chemical-laden shampoos, to go through withdrawal, and learn to live a chemical-free life.

We have been making and using natural shampoo bars for over 14 years and have received so many questions.

It may take some patience, but if you can persevere, your reward will be healthy, soft, and silky hair.

For more detailed information and great transition tips please read our blog "Tips Adjusting To Shampoo Bars."

Does Everyone Need To Use A Vinegar Hair Rinse?

Do I Need A Vinegar Rinse When Using a Natural Shampoo Bar?

Whether or not you need to use an apple cider vinegar (ACV) rinse depends on a number of factors.
  • Your water: If your hair does not seem to be adjusting to the shampoo bars, it may be due to your water. Hard water makes it more difficult to rinse natural shampoo from your hair.
  • Hair length: Many of our male customers and women with short hair have found that they do not need to rinse with vinegar, simply because their hair is short.
  • Tangles: ACV rinses often help with tangles.
  • Residue: If your hair has residue from previous products or you regularly use conditioners, styling gels etc., our shampoo bars are mild and may not remove residue from your hair like detergent shampoos. ACV rinses help remove build-up and product residue.
  • Hair type: Everyone's hair is unique.

Check out our selection of ACV Rinses

I wish I could use an apple cider vinegar (ACV) rinse very day. Besides creating tangle-free locks, I also love the way it makes my hair look and feel. As I have gotten older my hair has become drier and I can only use an ACV rinse 2 or 3 times week.

Ida's Shampooing Technique for Long Hair

Ida's Shampooing Technique for Long Hair

Men and women with short hair seldom have hair adjustment problems to natural shampoo bars. However, folks with long hair may have to change their shampoo technique when switching from commercial liquid shampoo or synthetic detergent shampoo bars to natural bars.

We have discovered that people with long hair often feel the need to use too much shampoo. Also, it is more difficult to rinse shampoo out of all the little nooks and crannies in long hair. As a result, there are pockets of soap residue left in the hair that make hair feel tacky.

I have found that many times the proper technique makes all the difference.

Natural Shampoo Bar Technique for Long HairI have long, fine hair. Below is my technique for using a shampoo bar.

  • thoroughly wet my hair
  • tie my long hair into a loose ponytail
  • wet the natural shampoo bar and rub the bar across only the top of my head in strokes from front to back until I have covered the entire scalp area (Rubbing any shampoo vigorously in all directions causes lots of tangles!)
  • massage my entire scalp (only the scalp) in a combing motion to work the lather through my hair
  • I do not rub the bar or work the lather on the length of my hair
  • take out my ponytail and rinse allowing the shampoo to drip down the length of my hair (I have found that this rinsing is enough to clean the length of my hair)
  • rinse, rinse, rinse for at LEAST one minute as I rub my fingers through my hair to be sure that all of the shampoo is rinsed away
  • squeeze gently on the length to remove excess water and cover with a towel while I dry off
  • I do not rub the towel over my wet hair because it causes nasty tangles
  • use a wide toothed comb and gently comb from the bottom up

Dry and style your hair as usual!

Do I Still Need To Use Conditioner With A Natural Shampoo Bar?

Some folks do, and some don't!

For Body & Luster

If you are using a conditioner because your hair is dull, lacks luster, and is dry--you may not need a conditioner--that's another plastic bottle saved! Since commercial shampoos contain petroleum products that are actually drying to your hair and scalp, conditioners are usually needed.

Our natural shampoo bars will not strip the natural oils from your hair, so you will not need the typical moisturizing conditioners that people use to replace the natural oils stripped by detergent shampoos.

Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) rinses are an excellent addition to any natural hair care routine and can help bring back body and shine to dull, lackluster hair.

For Tangly Hair

Natural Organic Hair Care

Hair tangles result when individual hairs go in different directions and intertwine.

The outer layer of the hair, the cuticle, is made of overlapping layers of long scales that lie along the surface of the hair like shingles on a roof.

The condition of the cuticle scales in part determines whether you are going to have tangly hair. When you shampoo or even wet your hair, the cuticle opens making it prone to tangling.

The way you shampoo and your hair type can affect hair tangles. I have long, fine, thin hair that is very prone to tangling. Just imagine all of those little strands of hair as very thin strings—now put little burrs on the strings (the open cuticle) and you can see my problem.

When I used a commercial shampoo I would go through a 16-ounce bottle of conditioner every week—just to get a comb through my hair. Using my shampoo bars has made a big difference.

I wish I could use an apple cider vinegar (ACV) rinse every day. Besides creating tangle-free locks, I also love the way it makes my hair look and feel. As I have gotten older, my hair has become dryer and I can only use a traditional ACV rinse 2 or 3 times per week. But I keep a spray bottle of very dilute ACV rinse that I use more often.

Helpful hint: If I comb through my hair length while it is still lathered and continue to comb as I rinse, the tangles comb out more easily.

Some customers have reported that they needed to continue using their traditional conditioner for a while and then were able to slowly wean off of it. I say, whatever works for you!

Chagrin Valley Hair Tea Rinses: Basic Instructions

Herbal Hair Tea Rinses

Herbal infusions have been used for centuries to naturally soften hair, increase manageability, and restore luster, body, and bounce.

Our Hair Tea blends are thoughtfully crafted with specific herbs traditionally used to support different hair and scalp needs. When used regularly, herbal rinses can help refresh the scalp, soothe irritation, enhance natural shine, and support a comfortable, balanced feel.

NOTE: Always make and store herbal hair preparations in nonreactive containers

Basic Herbal Tea Hair Rinse Recipe

Herbal Infusions for Natural Hair Care

Prepare the Tea
  • Boil 2 cups of water
  • Place 3 to 4 tablespoons of hair tea into the muslin bag included with the tea and secure tightly
  • Turn off the heat and allow the herbs to steep for at least 30 minutes to an hour
  • Allow the tea to cool
  • Give the bag a final squeeze to capture all of the botanical essence
  • If bits of herbs escaped the bag, strain the tea
  • Pour the cooled tea into a clean spray bottle, plastic squeeze bottle, or another container

When your infusion is complete, toss the contents of the tea bag into the garden or compost. Rinse the bag and allow it to dry.

Time-saving tip: Double or triple the recipe and save the extra tea so you always have some rinse on hand. You can refrigerate leftover hair tea for 7-10 days in a clean airtight container. Do not refrigerate tea in aluminum containers. For longer storage, you can also freeze the hair tea in small batches for up to 6 months.

If you are making larger recipes with lots of herbs, you may want to use more than one bag or just the loose tea. If you pack the muslin bag with too many herbs, they will not infuse completely.

How To Use The Tea Rinse

Our hair tea can be used in several ways.

Use in the Shower
  • Wash your hair with a natural shampoo and rinse thoroughly
  • Squirt, spray, or gently pour a good amount of the tea rinse onto wet hair, and be sure to saturate your scalp
  • Gently massage the herbal tea into your scalp and hair to the ends
  • Let it sit for a few minutes while you finish your shower*
  • Leave in or rinse out with lukewarm water and towel dry
  • Use the tea on clean hair before or after conditioning.

*TIP: If you bring a bowl into the shower, you can catch the tea as it runs through your hair so you can reapply it several times if desired.

Use as a Hair Refresher Spritz

Place your infused tea into a clean spray bottle. Lightly mist onto dry or damp hair between wash days to rehydrate, refresh curls, and soothe the scalp without residue.

How To Use Natural Organic Dry Shampoo Powder

How To Use a Natural Dry Shampoo Powder

Does your hair need a quick fix between shampoos? Our organic Fresh Locks™ dry shampoos quickly absorb the oil from your roots, leaving your hair looking clean and feeling and smelling fresh, while giving it an extra boost of volume when you have to skip the lather.

If you have ever used an aerosol dry shampoo and were unimpressed with the results, a dry shampoo powder may be just the solution you need.

To ensure you get the most out of our Organic Dry Shampoo powder, here are some quick instructions on applying it effectively!

How To Use Dry Shampoo

Always begin with dry hair and apply the powder primarily to the roots, where oil tends to accumulate.

Part the hair into small sections, about one to two inches apart, starting with the areas that tend to become oily first.

Choose Your Application Method

Brush Method
The most precise way to apply dry shampoo is with an applicator brush — even a clean makeup brush works well.

Sprinkle a small amount of powder into your hand or a small container. Dip the tips of the bristles into the powder, tap off the excess, and lightly dab the brush along the roots.

If you don’t have a brush, you can use your fingertips.

Sprinkle a small amount of powder onto your fingertips, rub them together, and gently massage the powder into the scalp, starting at your hairline or where oil is present.

Sprinkle Method
If your dry shampoo container has a sifter top, you can lightly sprinkle the powder directly onto the scalp.

Part your hair into small sections and apply a very small amount of powder at the roots, where oil tends to build up. Use a light hand — you can always add more if needed.

Because this method gives you less control over the amount of powder being applied, it works best when used sparingly and targeted to the oiliest areas.

Distribute the Powder

Once the powder has been applied, use your fingertips to massage and distribute it through the scalp. Wait a minute or two to allow the powder to absorb excess oil.

Then massage the scalp again, tousle your hair, and brush through to distribute the powder evenly. Spot apply more powder only where needed.

Night-Before Tip

Applying dry shampoo before bedtime can be especially effective. The powder has more time to absorb oil overnight and blend naturally into the hair.

Tip: If you wear a part in your hair, apply the powder near the part rather than directly on it.

A dry powder shampoo is great to use between washes, after the gym, or when traveling or camping.
